Haywood Community College’s workforce continuing education department is offering a wide variety of courses for the month of February. There’s something for everyone, including courses that allow you to earn a credential to courses for the hobbyist.
Career Planning will be held Tuesday, February 4, 6-10 p.m. This course helps students gain perspective on their career interests while devising a written action to make the goals real and achievable.
DSLR Camera Basics will be held Tuesdays, February 4-25, 6-8 p.m. Cost is $111. This course will cover the ins and outs of shooting in full manual mode on your camera including focus, aperture, shutter speed, white balance and ISO.
Fly Rod Making will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays, February 4 through April 2, 6-8 p.m. Cost is $315. Methodology of rod building will consist of techniques that are well over 100 years old.
WorkKeys Testing will be held February 6 and 20, 5:30-10 p.m. Students can earn the National Career Readiness Certificate or test for entry level positions with local employers.
Applique for Everyone will be held Friday, February 7, 1-4 p.m. Cost is $77. This class will teach different types of appliques with students going home with samples.
Notary Public will be held Saturday, February 8, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Cost is $100. This course covers the qualifications, procedures and certification to become a notary.
Oversize Escort Vehicle Certification will be held Saturday, February 8. This course is designed to meet the training requirements set by the NC Department of Transportation to certify Oversize-Overweight load escort vehicle drivers.
Community CPR will be held Wednesday, February 12, 5-10 p.m. This course is for nonmedical providers that need the skill for employment or want to have the skill in the event of an emergency.
Tomahawk Class will be held Friday through Sunday, February 21 through 23, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Cost is $240. This course will cover selection of steel, drifting the eye, heat-treating and handle construction.
