Haywood Community College’s workforce continuing education department is offering a wide variety of courses for the month of March. There’s something for everyone, including courses that allow you to earn a credential to courses for the hobbyist.  

Career Readiness Pathways will be held Monday, March 2, 6-10 p.m. This course is a complete approach to helping students reach their career goals.

Woodworking on a Budget 2 will be held Mondays and Wednesdays, March 2 through April 6, 5-7 p.m. Cost is $195. Throughout this course, students will garner a strong understanding of basic hand held power tools, as well as expand their abilities with hand tools while they work to craft a fine side table.

WorkKeys Testing will be held March 5 and 19, 5:30-10 p.m. Students can earn the National Career Readiness Certificate or test for entry level positions with local employers.

Notary Public will be held Saturday, March 7, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Cost is $100. This course covers the qualifications, procedures and certification to become a notary.

Intermediate Natural Dye will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays, March 10 through April 2, 5:30-7:30 p.m. Cost is $211. In this course, participants will take a deep dive into designing with plant dyes.

Intermediate Weaving:  Floor Loom will be held Tuesdays, March 10 through April 21, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Cost is $227. This class is for anyone who has participated in a beginning weaving class and would like to expand their knowledge.

Drawing:  Foundations will be held Tuesdays, March 10 through 24, 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Cost is $75. This course focuses on translating three dimensions to a two-dimensional surface.

Mixed Media Salon will be held Tuesdays, March 10 through 24, 1-4 p.m. Cost is $75. Join the instructor and other artists to implement ideas that convey artful expression in drawing and/or painting.

Intro to Painting:  Acrylics will be held Tuesdays, March 10 through 24, 4:30-7:30 p.m. Cost is $75. Students will learn basics of painting with acrylic paints.

Community CPR will be held Wednesday, March 11. This course is for nonmedical providers that need the skill for employment or want to have the skill in the event of an emergency.

Beginning Tapestry will be held Wednesdays, March 11 through 25, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Cost is $166. Learn both disciplined and free form methods to interpret your favorite scenic views in yarn.

ABS Introduction to Bladesmithing will be held Monday through Friday, March 16 through 27, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Cost is $1,227.25. This class is for beginning knifemakers.

Beaded Necklace will be held Friday, March 20, 12-4 p.m. Cost is $80. In this class, students will learn the basics of making a necklace using beads.

Upholstery will be held Mondays, March 30 through June 9, 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m. An evening class will be offered March 30 through June 9, 5:30-9:30 p.m. Cost is $160. This course provides hands-on experience in tool use, various equipment and techniques of the upholstery profession.

Intermediate Jewelry Fabrication:  Dimensional and Kinetic will be held Tuesdays, March 31 through June 2, 6-9 p.m. Cost is $316. This 10-week course will focus on more advanced jewelry fabrication techniques such as box construction and working with 3-D forms in various ways.
