Haywood Community College students claimed monetary prizes during the Showcase for Student Entrepreneurs event for National Entrepreneurship Week. In this event, students pitched their ideas about a business they would like to start. Competing students set up display booths and HCC students, faculty, and staff voted on the winner. New this year, a student also claimed a monetary prize for the I Have a Great Idea Video Contest. Funding for these student events was provided by the HCC Foundation.
Due to the popularity of the Showcase event for professional crafts students, first, second, and third places were awarded for both professional crafts students and students whose venture was designed for products and services. First place winner for the professional crafts category was Linda Azar, second place went to Helen Sanders Geltman, and third place was awarded to Cathy Babula. In the products and services category, first place went to Vicki Passmore. Second place was awarded to Scott Burns. Third place went to David Elliott. Winner of the I Have a great Idea Video Contest was Chad Canupp.
