Law Enforcement Training
Haywood Community College offers two programs under Public Safety Training: Basic Law Enforcement Training and the LEO In-Service Training program. Both Programs are vital in becoming an accomplished officer of the law. The Basic Law Enforcement Training program is a pre-requisite in becoming a police officer. The LEO, In-Service Training Program, offers a chance to experience in service training with the local Haywood County police force.
BLET
Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) is designed to equip each student with the basic
skills, knowledge and ability to function as an inexperienced law enforcement officer
in the State of North Carolina.
This class is a pre-requisite for Law Enforcement Officer Certification in this State,
composed of blocks of instruction with a state specified minimum number of hours set
for each of the blocks.
The next class starts March 2, 2026.
Class will meet 8:00am - 5:30pm Monday-Friday (occasional weekends).
Registration and completion of an information packet is required by February 23, 2026.
Registration and packet pickup is available at the Public Safety Training Facility
on HCC's main campus.
Certification for this program is from the NC Criminal Justice Commission. HCC follows all training hour and admission requirements.
LEO In-Service
HCC works in conjunction with local Law Enforcement agencies to provide a variety
of annual in-service training opportunities.

- Telecommunicator In-Service
