Truck Driver Training
CDL training teaches proper driving procedures for commercial vehicles.
This course teaches proper driving procedures, safe driver responsibility, commercial motor vehicle laws and regulations, and the basic principles and practices for operating commercial vehicles.
The course work includes motor vehicle laws and regulations, map reading, vehicle maintenance, safety procedures, daily logs, defensive driving, freight handling, security, and fire protection. Highway driving training exercises and classroom lectures are used to develop the student’s knowledge and skills.
Upon successful completion, students are qualified to take the Commercial Driver’s License exam and are employable by commercial trucking firms. Students may also become owner-operators and work as private contract haulers.
Course Details
Our next orientation is on July 6 from 5-7 p.m. at the High Tech Center. Orientation is mandatory before registering for any CDL class.
The next class starts on August 17. Classes are held Monday-Friday, 4:30-9:30, with occasional Saturdays from 9 a.m.-2
p.m. Total class length is 13 weeks.

- Students will need to obtain their CDL permit from the DMV. It is recommended to book your DMV appointment well in advance of the class start date.
Tuition: $2,400 plus additional fees for screenings and permits.
Additional fees apply and are approximate:
- $160 DOT physical (due before first day of class)
- $15 Motor Vehicle Report (due before first day of class)
- $77 Class A CDL permit (due before the first day of class)
- $107.50 Class A CDL License (last week of class)
- $4.25/year endorsements

Forward Fund Loan Program
The Forward Fund (TFF) helps students enrolled in Haywood Community College’s Truck Driver Training course cover their cost of attendance and living expenses with a 0% interest loan.
Forward Fund Offers:
Financial Support: Access a 0% interest Forward Fund loan between $2,000 and $10,000 to cover program costs, equipment, and your cost-of-living expenses (housing, childcare, transportation, etc.) during training.
Student Support: Forward Fund’s preferential loan terms are designed to move you forward and eliminate long-term burden. There is a three-month grace period on payments post-graduation and a 60-month payment timeframe. Once you begin repayment, you can make monthly payments without any interest – and defer payment until you’re earning at least $45,000. There will be 0% interest for the duration of the loan.
