Training Opportunities

Haywood Community College is committed to providing quality training for our community. We have a variety of short term workforce training options available, as well as certificates and diplomas.

During the week of April 3rd Haywood Community College will be hosting sessions to talk about upcoming short term workforce development and degree opportunities. Attendance is open to everyone, and you are invited to attend multiple sessions to discover all of the programs being offered.  Sessions will be held at 8am and 6pm for each topic at HCC’s Regional High Tech Center located at 112 Industrial Park Drive, Waynesville, NC 28786.

Monday, April 3 sessions will review short term workforce opportunities in HCC’s Construction Technology Program including HVAC, Plumbing, and Construction.

Tuesday, April 4 sessions will review short term workforce opportunities in the Public Safety industry including: Basic Law Enforcement, Emergency Medical Sciences, and Fire. This session will also review degree opportunities for Criminal Justice.

Wednesday, April 5 sessions will review Small Business Center opportunities and support as well as degree programs including: Accounting, Information Technology, Business, and Tourism.

Thursday, April 6 will feature sessions related to the healthcare industry. This will include short term training opportunities for Nurse Aide and Phlebotomy and degree programs in Nursing, Medical Assisting, and Medical Office Administration (online program).

Friday, April 7 sessions will cover opportunities in the Advanced Manufacturing and Automotive industries and will include a tour of the High Tech center where some of these classes will be held. Short term opportunities include NIMS Level One Machining, Mechatronics, and Automotive. Degree program overviews will include Computer Integrated Machining, Industrial Systems Technology, Electrical Systems Technology, Welding Technology, Automotive Systems Technology and Collision Repair & Refinishing Technology.

These sessions are being provided to offer additional details about special offerings for the community to upskill or pursue a certification or degree for those that may be impacted by the closure of the mill, their families, and the general community.

Financial Support

The community is dedicated to support those impacted by the mill closure. From employees to households and local businesses, support is available!

As our area continues to fine tune support options, HCC will assist in sharing that information. HCC has established a scholarship for mill employees. Haywood Strong offers financial assistance for those looking to return to the classroom. To start the process for this scholarship, visit our Scholarship webpage.
