Howell Foundation Establishes Scholarship for Veteran Students and Families at Haywood Community College Foundation

The Howell Foundation recently started a $3,000 scholarship at the Haywood Community College Foundation for veteran students and families of veterans. In addition, the Howell Foundation donated a bench to the college in memory of the foundation’s founder J.R. Howell and all those who serve our nation and $1,000 for Bobcat College summer camp for middle schoolers.

“We are excited to be able to help veterans in their pursuit of learning,” explains Vern Wilson, chairman of the Howell Foundation Board. “We sincerely trust that these gifts will be helpful for those who are trying to make our world better by making their world better.”

JR Howell served our country during the Vietnam War and received five medals for his service during the Tet offensive in 1968. He lived out his dream in Bell Buckle, Tennessee and passed away in August 2020.

Created in 2010, the Howell Foundation actively supports military veterans in need of education, medical, legal, or technical training; assists veteran-supported communities in arts, science and humanities; and provides support for national foundations dedicated to assisting veterans. The Howell Foundation, managed and run by a Board of Directors, is charged with the mission of directing funds to help veteran and veteran-related organizations succeed.
