Student Trends in Fiber
Haywood Community College is hosting a unique fiber exhibit – Spotlight: Student Trends in Fiber, which joins efforts with the Southeast Fiber Alliance (SEFAA). This exhibit is a juried student exhibition spotlighting student trends in fiber. It exclusively features the work of post-secondary students to honor and encourage the next generation of artists. The exhibition showcases a wide range of content, materials, and techniques with the common threads of originality and passion.
There are 25 unique fiber art pieces on display, and they are available for public viewing through November 8, 2024.
To launch and showcase the exhibit, a gallery reception will be held on Saturday, October 5, from 3-5 pm in the Mary Cornwell Gallery on the campus of HCC. This reception is open to the public and will feature the opportunity to meet the artists and light refreshments.
Amy Putansu, Professional Crafts Fiber Instructor shares that “holding this fantastic show here at HCC is such a benefit to our Professional Crafts students. They get a rare opportunity to see behind-the-scenes as the artwork is prepared for exhibit and they are also exposed to student work from farther afield.”
This exhibition is the fifth in a series, with previous exhibitions held in Greenville, NC, Athens, GA, Murray, KY, and Greenville, SC.
Spotlight: Student Trends in Fiber appeals to the general public, who, as a result of viewing the show, can view unique pieces from students at the national level in various mediums such as crochet, felting, quilting, and more.
Thank you to the HCC Foundation for supporting this event with funding.
