(Clyde, NC) – Haywood Community College and North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University have officially entered into an articulation agreement for HCC’s Natural Resources programs to provide direct entry into NC A&T’s Agricultural Education Program. Transfer is possible after completion of a Forest Management Technology or Fish and Wildlife Management Technology degree at Haywood Community College.

Dr. Shelley White and Dr. Antoine Alston smiling to camera signing papers The two pathways offered by HCC allow students to choose the subject of greatest interest, whether it’s forestry or wildlife, both of which promote an understanding of ecosystems and conservation. These programs are offered on the campus of HCC in Clyde, NC where the campus is a live, learning lab for students to study species in real life. In addition to classroom time, students also take part in field trips to understand ecosystem diversity and management in other areas of the country.

N.C. A&T’s Agricultural Education Program offers two tracks of study. The Secondary Education Track prepares students for teacher licensure and careers teaching agriculture in middle and high schools. The Professional Services Track provides necessary training for employment in cooperative extension, agricultural leadership, agribusiness, and multiple government agencies.

By completing HCC’s Associate Degree program prior to transferring, students will be able to enter N.C. A&T at junior status and complete a Bachelor’s degree in two years entirely online. Students wishing to continue with graduate studies can then pursue the Master of Science in Agricultural Education completely online, if desired. Because the graduate-level programs at N.C. A&T are available entirely online, students can further their education from anywhere and take their career path in a unique direction with employment opportunities available throughout the country.

Dr. John Sherman, Program Manager of Natural Resources at HCC, stated that “The agreement represents a great opportunity for our natural resources graduates to complete a 4-year degree without having to relocate. Because the program can be completed entirely online, there are no restrictions on location that can occur due to employment and family situations.”

Dr. Antoine J. Alston, Associate Dean for Academic Studies, within the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences at NC A&T State University, who fostered the agreement, indicated that “This partnership exemplifies our commitment to expanding educational access, creating seamless pathways to degree completion, and preparing the next generation of agricultural and natural resource professionals to meet the evolving workforce needs of North Carolina and beyond.”

As students complete their Associate degree at HCC, they will be able to work directly with the N.C. A&T admissions team to register for courses in their preferred program of study and to review the class delivery options to determine what will fit their lifestyle best. This agreement offers degree completion through a structured transfer pathway, ensuring students take the right courses to maximize their time at each college on their way to a successful and productive career.
