HCC to Offer Diesel Mechanic Program

Haywood Community College’s Workforce Continuing Education Department will offer a diesel mechanic program with classes beginning April 19. As a result of grant funding from the Appalachian Regional Commission for Project DRIVE totaling more than $254,000, equipment has been purchased for students to train on the most comprehensive new technology.

In the Diesel Mechanic Program, students will learn how to measure, diagnose problems and repair diesel engines. This classroom and hands-on experience includes training from skilled instructors with students working on the latest diagnostic equipment, including a dynamometer to test engine performance. These students will learn the most up-to-date techniques to produce highly skilled technicians to meet the growing demands of our communities.

Classes in the diesel mechanic program end on July 28 and students will complete a total of 193.5 hours. Upon completion, students will be able to take the Automotive Service Excellence certification test to obtain their final certification, provided all other ASE requirements are met. This certification will improve the marketability and earning potential for promising careers. Learn more by emailing hccindustrytraining@haywood.edu or calling 828-627-4669.
