Beads, Books, and Bottles

glass bottles with fabric collage on themInstructor: Elizabeth Garlington

Location: Sycamore Building, 7105

Have you ever wondered what to do with your recycled glass bottles? Do you have collections of small fabric scraps, snippets of thread, and pieces of unused batting that need a home in a work of art? Look no further and join us in the classroom! We will put creative use to fabric, thread, needles, and batting to learn how to make a fabric book, many fabric beads, and a fabric vase. Learn the techniques of stitching a pamphlet book together after beautifully decorating the book pages with fabric collage and a variety of embroidery stitches. Apply hand applique to the fabric covering your glass bottle. Curl, roll, and stitch fabric together to create fabric beads. We will learn to balance planning our design and art making processes with intuition and improvisation. Experience sharing and instructional support in learning a variety of fabric art techniques which culminate in three 3-D works of fiber art.
