Jewelry: Stone Setting Cabochons and Cut Stones
Instructor: Ilene Kay
Location: Sycamore Building, 7231
In this class, students will learn the step-by-step process involved in creating tube settings for faceted stones. The class also introduces key tools and their proper use, such as the miter jig for accurate cutting and the setting burr for preparing and seating stones. Through guided, hands-on practice, students will gain confidence in applying these techniques and begin incorporating them into their own creative jewelry designs. In the second project, students will learn how to evaluate irregularly shaped cabochons and determine the most effective setting approach. They will explore options such as bezel settings, prong settings, or a combination of both, gaining the skills to choose the best method for achieving both security and aesthetic appeal. Please wear closed toed shoes. If you have long hair, please have a way to tie it back.
