The Art of the Hand-Pulled Print
Instructor: Lauren Medford
Location: Sycamore Bdg, RM 7306
Discover the art of printmaking through simple, hands-on techniques; no experience required! Printmaking is the process of creating original artwork by transferring ink from a carved, textured, or drawn surface onto paper. In other words, you’ll learn how to make your own stamps, carve designs, and create layered prints you can repeat and experiment with. In this beginner-friendly course, we’ll start with easy stamp-making before moving into bold one-color linocuts. From there, we’ll explore textured collagraphs, expressive monoprints, and simple etched designs using plexiglass. Each project builds on the last, giving you a well-rounded introduction to a variety of printmaking styles. This class is all about exploration, creativity, and learning by doing—perfect for anyone curious about making their own prints, cards, or artwork. You’ll leave with a collection of finished pieces and the skills to keep printing at home.
