Immunization and CPR Training Course for Pharmacy Technicians

Haywood Community College’s Workforce Continuing Education Department’s Pharmacy Technician Training Program is partnering with UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy to offer The Pharmacy Technicians and Vaccinations: An Advanced Training Program. Under the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) PREP Act, qualified pharmacy technicians may now administer COVID-19 vaccinations to aid in the vaccination effort. In addition, these technicians can administer some childhood vaccinations to persons three years of age and older.

The Pharmacy Technicians and Vaccinations: An Advanced Training Program is an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education® (ACPE®) accredited program designed to provide the necessary information and requirements as outlined by the PREP Act to meet HHS guidelines for initial qualifications of pharmacy technicians to administer vaccines. This interactive program teaches participants the skills necessary to become a source for vaccine information and administration.

The program discusses the expanding role of pharmacy technicians, legal and regulatory requirements for vaccine administration, safety and quality procedures, steps to take in a vaccine emergency and will demonstrate the appropriate immunization administration technique to participants. There are three components to the certificate training program, including a 1.5-hour self-study program, 3-hour live seminar, and hands-on assessment of intramuscular and subcutaneous injection technique.

HCC will also offer optional American Heart Association® (AHA®) Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification included in the price of the immunization program to ensure proper training of technicians in case of an emergency.

The cost for the program will be $77. Registration will close Thursday, May 13 at 5:00 p.m. Important dates:
